Jolly Jumpers Playzone, a beloved soft play centre in Bridgwater, Somerset, is urgently seeking community support as it faces soaring operational costs. This family-run business, founded over a decade ago by the Welham family, has long been a cherished venue where thousands of local families have celebrated milestones like birthdays and first steps.
Emily Welham, 25, manager and lifelong team member, shared the struggles the centre is currently enduring. “I’ve worked here since I was 14, which is crazy to think,” she reflected. Despite being busy throughout the winter, Jolly Jumpers sees a significant drop in visitors during the summer months—a six-week period that proves financially challenging.
“While many parents opt for beach trips, parks, or countryside hikes on warm days, fewer families are coming through our doors,” Emily explained. She also acknowledged the impact of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, saying, “We understand money is tight for everyone right now.”

The rising expenses in staff wages, utilities, business rates, insurance, and essential maintenance have placed enormous pressure on the centre’s finances. To combat this, Jolly Jumpers has launched a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise £3,500. So far, £445 has been pledged by 23 generous donors.
Their appeal emphasizes that every donation, no matter the size, will directly contribute to keeping the playzone open and providing a safe, warm, and welcoming space for children to play freely. “If you’ve ever visited, celebrated with us, or simply believe in supporting independent businesses, we would be incredibly grateful for your help,” the appeal reads.
With hours stretched and costs cut to the bone, the Jolly Jumpers team is committed to their mission but admits they cannot survive without community support. The centre remains open seven days a week, hopeful that together with local families, it can continue to be a hub of joy and childhood fun for years to come.
