Massive Dog Show Draws 7,000 Canines Competing for Top Honors

The Bath Canine Society Championship dog show, one of the largest and most prestigious events in the West Country, is set to take place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, from Friday 23 May to Monday 26 May. Held at the scenic Three Shires Field in Bannerdown, Bath, the show will feature an impressive lineup of more than 7,000 dogs competing for the coveted Best In Show title and a chance to qualify for Crufts 2026.

Dog enthusiasts from across the region will have the opportunity to engage with canine experts from The Kennel Club at their informative roadshow stand. Visitors can explore over 200 pedigree breeds, learn about their unique characteristics, care requirements, and suitability as pets. The event is perfect for those considering adding a furry friend to their family.

The competition is organized into breed groups throughout the four days:

  • Friday 23 May: Utility & Hound breeds
  • Saturday 24 May: Toy & Terrier breeds
  • Sunday 25 May: Gundog breeds
  • Monday 26 May: Working & Pastoral breeds

The show is open not only to exhibitors but also to the public, who are encouraged to bring their own dogs (aged four months and older). All dogs must be on leads and registered with the event Secretary upon arrival. Entry for spectator dogs is £5, while on-site car parking costs £10.

In addition to watching the breed judging, visitors can meet breeders and dog owners, enjoy browsing an array of trade stands offering dog-related products, and receive expert advice from Kennel Club professionals. Topics include participation in dog activities like showing and agility, health testing, registering new puppies, and finding responsible breeders.

Organized by the Bath Canine Society, this event marks the 96th edition of their all-breed Championship show, celebrating decades of canine excellence and community spirit.
