Massive Blaze Engulfs Derelict Building in Taunton

A significant fire has left a large derelict building in Taunton completely destroyed. The fire, which started on Monday, April 14, raged for hours, emitting smoke visible for miles around.

As of Tuesday, April 15, the building has been reduced to ruins, with firefighters still dealing with hotspots. The blaze prompted a swift response from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, with multiple reports leading to the dispatch of fire engines from Taunton and an additional appliance from Wellington.

The Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the immense fire had taken over a large derelict commercial premises, necessitating precautions for the local community. By Monday evening, the former commercial property, measuring 37m by 8m, had succumbed to the flames, and efforts were made to prevent the smoke plume from reaching nearby housing estates.
