A major development is underway in Devizes, Wiltshire, where a sprawling 40,000 square foot Tesco superstore is planned as the centerpiece of a new retail park. The proposals will be presented to the community during a public consultation event on Tuesday, July 7, from 1pm to 7:30pm at the Devizes Corn Exchange.
The new Tesco store promises more than just shopping convenience—it will be nestled in a beautifully landscaped “parkland setting” featuring lakes, mature trees, and green spaces designed to blend retail with nature. The development also includes a drive-through Starbucks coffee outlet and a DIY store, contributing to a diverse shopping destination on the town’s outskirts.
Developed by Reading-based Robert Cort Properties, the project builds on previously approved planning permission for a business park at the same site, now dubbed Moonraker Business Park off Horton Road. This site is also earmarked for a £10 million Aldi store, ensuring the area becomes a bustling retail hub.

Tesco’s new superstore is expected to generate between 75 and 80 jobs, offering shoppers additional amenities such as an in-store bakery, health and beauty section, clothing department, cash machines, as well as click and collect and home delivery services. The store is planned to operate from 7am to 11pm, providing extended shopping hours for local residents.
An online consultation period has already taken place, and the upcoming in-person event will give locals a valuable opportunity to review the detailed plans and engage directly with the developers. Following consultation feedback, a formal planning application is scheduled for submission in September.
This development promises to enhance retail options in Devizes while creating jobs and integrating a unique parkland atmosphere to complement everyday shopping.
