Masked Intruders Target Elderly Woman in Minehead, Steal Large Sum of Money

Two masked men broke into the home of an elderly woman on Glenmore Road, Minehead, in a calculated burglary that resulted in the theft of a substantial amount of cash and two bank cards. The incident occurred on Friday, November 21, between 6:40 pm and 7:00 pm.

The intruders forced their way into the residence and raided a bedroom, taking a significant quantity of money and the victim’s bank cards. The homeowner, a woman in her seventies, encountered the burglars as they were returning downstairs, prompting them to flee the property.

Though the victim was physically unharmed, the ordeal has left her understandably shaken. Police are treating the incident as a targeted burglary and are offering support to the victim, including access to specialist assistance.

Descriptions provided indicate the suspects wore dark clothing. The first man is estimated to be around 6 feet tall and wore a face covering with a distinctive yellow marking. The second also wore dark clothes and a face mask, but further identifying details remain unknown.

Authorities have launched an appeal for witnesses and any residents with CCTV or doorbell footage in the area are encouraged to come forward. Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Jones emphasized the impact of the crime, stating: “This high-value burglary has deeply affected a vulnerable victim. We urge anyone who saw the suspects or has footage to assist our investigation.”

The Avon and Somerset Police have conducted patrols, house-to-house inquiries, and deployed crime scene investigators to gather evidence following the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as officers seek additional information to bring those responsible to justice.
