Former professional footballer Marcus Stewart has stepped down from his role as Head of Player Development at Yeovil Town FC, more than two years after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Stewart, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career with clubs including Bristol Rovers, Bristol City, Exeter City, Ipswich Town, Sunderland, and Yeovil Town, remains a highly respected figure in football. Yeovil Town described him as “a cherished part of our club’s history and a much-admired figure within the wider football community.”
Diagnosed with MND in September 2022, Stewart has shown remarkable strength, raising awareness and funds for the disease. One of his notable efforts includes completing a 178-mile march to support MND research.

Marcus Stewart joined Yeovil Town FC in June 2022, shortly before publicly sharing his MND diagnosis later that year. Despite this personal challenge, he maintained his professionalism and dedication, inspiring supporters and the football community worldwide.
Stewart’s career is marked by impressive achievements, including 254 goals in 783 matches across England’s top four tiers over two decades, representing eight different clubs.
