Map Reveals Locations of 145 Claire’s Stores Closing Across UK and Ireland, Including Somerset

Claire’s, the popular fashion accessories retailer, is set to close 145 of its stores across the UK and Ireland following a recent rescue deal that saved just over half of its outlets. The closure list includes the Weston-super-Mare store at The Sovereign Shopping Centre in Somerset.

Last week, investment firm Modella Capital acquired the majority of Claire’s UK and Ireland operations and assets from administrators, securing the future of approximately 155 stores out of the chain’s total 300 locations. Unfortunately, 145 stores were excluded from the deal, placing around 1,000 jobs at risk.

An interactive map has been made available for customers to identify which stores are affected by the closures. Administrators Interpath have assured that the 145 stores will remain open as long as possible while exploring alternative solutions. Some locations have already begun clearance sales, with closure dates varying depending on the store.

Claire’s UK and Ireland operations entered administration last month after the company filed for bankruptcy in the United States. Since its establishment in 2022, Modella Capital has rapidly expanded in the UK retail sector, acquiring WH Smith’s high street division earlier this year, as well as arts and crafts chain Hobbycraft, and investing in fashion brand Ted Baker.

Natasha Harbinson, Managing Director at Interpath, commented, “We are pleased to confirm the sale of the majority of Claire’s UK business and assets, ensuring this beloved brand will continue to have a presence on high streets across the UK.”
