The body of a man was recovered from the River Avon near Town Bridge in Chippenham during the early hours of Tuesday, March 31. Emergency services, including Wiltshire Police, Avon and Somerset Police, and Wiltshire Search and Rescue, were called to the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m. following reports expressing concern for the welfare of an individual.
A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police confirmed the recovery and stated that the man’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specially trained officers during this difficult time.
In compliance with protocol after prior police contact, Wiltshire Police has made a mandatory self-referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
