Man Visits Weston-Super-Mare Beach During 30C Heatwave and Discovers Why It’s Surprisingly Quiet

On a record-breaking Bank Holiday Monday, with temperatures soaring above 30°C across parts of the UK, thousands flocked to coastal towns for some sun and sea. Among them was Nick George, who traveled 115 miles from Wolverhampton to Weston-Super-Mare with his family to soak up the heatwave by the beach.

However, upon arrival, Nick quickly realized that the scene wasn’t what he anticipated. Sharing his experience on TikTok, he captured footage revealing the sparsely crowded beach and soon uncovered the reason behind it.

Standing on the sandy shoreline, Nick filmed the surroundings, noting people walking to and from the water while the tide was out. As he lowered the camera to show his feet, viewers saw them submerged up to his ankles in thick mud. Navigating carefully to avoid slipping, Nick highlighted the unexpected muddy conditions that contrasted with the sunshine and swimwear-clad visitors.

The reaction online was mixed but mostly unsurprised. Commenters explained that Weston-Super-Mare’s beach is better described as an estuary—a body of water where rivers meet the sea—resulting in vast stretches of mudflats when the tide recedes. Some locals joked about the nickname “Weston-super-Mud,” while others recommended nicer beaches nearby.

Despite this, Nick remained positive, emphasizing that the family had a lovely day regardless. In a follow-up video, he responded to comments and confirmed that the weather was perfect for a day out, rating the beach experience five out of five and expressing eagerness to return.
