On a record-breaking late spring Bank Holiday Monday, with temperatures soaring above 30°C across parts of the UK, countless people flocked to coastal towns for a day by the sea. Among them was Nick George and his family, who journeyed 115 miles from Wolverhampton to Weston-Super-Mare, eager to soak up the sun and enjoy the beach.
However, Nick quickly realized that the beach wasn’t as busy or inviting as he had anticipated. Sharing his experience on TikTok, he humorously captured the scene with the caption, “Go to the beach they said. It’ll be fun they said.” Standing on the sand, he filmed the area around him, showing people strolling near the shoreline on a day when the tide was notably out.
The real surprise came when Nick panned the camera down to reveal his feet — submerged up to the ankles in thick mud. Navigating carefully to avoid slipping, he highlighted the muddy, tricky terrain that many visitors seemingly overlooked. Despite the footwear challenges, others nearby donned swimwear and seemed unfazed by the mud as they enjoyed dips in the water.

The video sparked a lively conversation in the comments section. Many locals weren’t surprised by Nick’s discovery. One user wrote, “As a resident of Weston, we never mentioned we had a beach.” Another added, “There’s a nicer beach down the road from there.” Several pointed out that Weston-Super-Mare’s shoreline is more of an estuary—where rivers meet the sea—explaining the significant mudflats and tidal patterns. This unique geography has even earned the town the playful nickname “Weston-super-Mud.”
Despite the muddy conditions and the unexpected terrain, Nick remained positive about his visit. In a follow-up video replying to comments, he shared that his family had a lovely day out. “But apart from that, the beach was fantastic, so yeah, five out of five, coming back again,” he told viewers, praising the perfect weather and overall experience.
