Man Subjected to Racial Abuse While Walking to Work in Bridgwater

Avon and Somerset Police have launched an investigation into a racially aggravated assault that occurred in Bridgwater on the evening of Friday, September 12th. At approximately 8:35 p.m., a man in his early 20s was attacked and racially abused by two other men while walking to work in the Eastover area.

The victim sustained facial injuries from the assault and was promptly taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and is continuing his recovery at home, with ongoing support from police and access to specialist services as needed.

Two suspects, aged 20 and 28, were arrested the same day on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and racially aggravated public order offences. Both have been released on conditional bail and are prohibited from entering the Eastover area.

In an effort to gather more information, police have released an image of a man who may have witnessed the incident. Authorities are appealing directly to this individual—or anyone who knows him or witnessed the event—to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Police Constable Hannah Bird, leading the inquiry, emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating, “This was a deeply distressing incident for the victim, and we are committed to supporting him fully. We categorise this as a hate crime, which has no place in our community. We urge anyone with information, particularly the man pictured, to contact us.”
