Sam Wilder, a content creator specialising in budget food challenges and British dining experiences, recently embarked on a unique challenge: spending a full 24 hours within a Somerset Wetherspoons venue. Choosing the Cabot Court Hotel in Weston-super-Mare, a Grade-II listed building overlooking the town’s famous seafront, Sam documented his stay at this popular pub setting.
Located close to major local attractions such as The Grand Pier, Weston Museum, and the Water Adventure Play Park, the Cabot Court Hotel offered a distinctive backdrop for Sam’s food-focused endeavour. At the beginning of his challenge, Sam set clear rules: once inside, he was not to leave for the entire 24-hour period; he intended to eat, drink, sleep, and fully immerse himself in the Wetherspoons experience.
Starting his day at 9.09am, Sam ordered a bowl of fruit and yoghurt along with a coffee, praising the chain’s standard for fresh fruit. He enjoyed his breakfast outdoors in the “beautiful” beer garden, appreciating the peaceful sea views and calm atmosphere.

While working on editing videos on his laptop, he later ordered lunch – a Korean fried chicken wrap paired with a pale ale – which he again savoured in the sunny beer garden. Sam complimented Wetherspoons’ food quality, describing the chicken as “juicy” and the lettuce as “nice”, though he did note the wrap itself was slightly stale.
Moving indoors, Sam bought another pint and took his seat at the upstairs bar. He also gave viewers a tour of his hotel room, noting its spaciousness and amenities. Priced at £99, the room featured a “huge bed,” classic Wetherspoons carpet, floral wallpaper, a balcony with scenic views, and a “swanky” bathroom. Sam expressed his fondness for Weston-super-Mare, calling it “gorgeous” and a place he “really liked.”
In the evening, while watching the World Cup, Sam enjoyed a dinner of fish and chips with Pepsi Max. He remarked on the appearance of the fish, suspecting it had been cooked in oil that was too hot due to its jagged batter, but found the batter’s flavour satisfying. The chips needed some salt but were “pretty tasty,” although the mushy peas were described as bland. Overall, he considered it an “enjoyable dinner,” typical of Wetherspoons fare.
After watching England play Argentina, Sam retired early to his room to play Mario Kart on his Nintendo Switch before going to bed. Despite a restless night, he concluded his challenge the next morning, choosing not to stay for breakfast.
Reflecting on the experience, Sam said, “What an absolutely fun day. I’m done, and I just want to get home.” He praised the venue as one of the nicest Wetherspoons he had visited, highlighting its great views, multiple floor levels, and excellent hotel facilities. His only criticisms were the lack of air conditioning and an uncomfortable bed, which contributed to his poor sleep. He also commended the staff, describing them as “fab.”
