A serious assault in Bath has left a man in his 70s with life-altering injuries. The attack happened around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, as the victim and his wife were walking along Argyle Street towards Pulteney Bridge to catch a bus.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, the pavement was narrow due to ongoing roadworks when an unknown man approached the couple and deliberately brushed shoulders with the victim. The suspect, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, then turned, chased after the victim, and violently pushed him to the ground before fleeing toward Great Pulteney Street.
The victim suffered a broken femur requiring surgery. Since the assault, he has been unable to maintain his usual active lifestyle, relying heavily on his wife for support—a situation described by police as having a “profound effect” on him and his family.
