Man Sentenced for Assaulting Woman in Wiltshire

A 41-year-old man from Trowbridge has been sentenced for assaulting a woman on a street in Wiltshire. Jason Prior was found guilty of assault by beating, an offense he initially denied, and was sentenced to 23 weeks in prison at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday. This sentence is near the maximum the court is authorized to impose.

The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, June 2, on Bythesea Road. In addition to the assault charge, Prior was also convicted of cannabis possession and received a concurrent three-week sentence.

Following his conviction, Prior is subject to a restraining order that prohibits any contact with his victim.

PC Emma Hensberg commended the victim for her courage in assisting the police, emphasizing how her actions helped bring the offender to justice and may prevent further harm. She also encouraged the public to be aware of Clare’s Law, which enables police to disclose information about a partner’s history of violence or abuse to protect potential victims and prevent further offenses.
