Man sells £4m Omaze mansion in Bath months after marrying there

Paul Knight, 47, is putting his stunning six-bedroom period property, Batheaston House, on the market for £4 million—just six months after marrying there. The Grade II* listed Queen Anne residence, with royal connections dating back to the mid-1500s, was won by Paul in the Omaze Million Pound House Draw in Bath, an unforgettable moment he amusingly discovered while sitting on the loo.

The property once belonged to Sir John Harington, the inventor of the first flushing toilet, and has been lovingly restored to blend historic grandeur with modern luxury. After their wedding last year at the house, Paul and his husband Jason Snowdon, 36, even rented it out as a holiday let for £4,000 a week before deciding to sell.

Reflecting on their wedding, Paul said: “Winning this house felt like a dream fit for royalty, so getting married here was perfect. It’s not only our home but also the most stunning wedding venue we could imagine. Hiring such a venue would have been costly, but living here made it all possible, bringing our dream wedding to life.”

The meticulously restored Batheaston House retains many unique features, including an internal functioning well, a secret Georgian drawer safe, and graffiti dating back to 1636, all while the exterior has remained virtually unchanged since 1712. The one-acre manicured gardens and grounds add to the property’s timeless elegance.

Inside, the home blends heritage with comfort, showcasing high ceilings, ornate fireplaces, intricate panelling, delicate ceiling mouldings, and tall sash windows with working shutters. The ground floor offers four reception rooms, including a south-facing drawing room opening onto a garden terrace, a formal dining room, and a garden room featuring a hidden kitchen/bar concealed behind sliding bookcases.

Additional highlights include a Tudor basement with underfloor heating, a superb kitchen centered on a large stone fireplace and vintage Electrikit AGA stove, bespoke cabinetry crafted from solid tulip wood, and high-end appliances from Miele and Neff. Upstairs, guests will find well-appointed bedrooms and bathrooms combining refined craftsmanship with modern amenities.

Paul and Jason also added contemporary comforts like a home cinema and hot tub, seamlessly integrating luxury with the home’s historic character. Now, after sharing the property as a holiday let and creating unforgettable memories there, they have decided to move on and list the exceptional home with Savills.
