A man was trapped after his car veered off the road and crashed into a dense hedge near Yeovil on Thursday, October 9. The incident occurred at around 7:45 pm in Montacute, prompting a swift response from emergency services, including the air ambulance.
Initial reports indicated that the car was smoking with someone still inside. Firefighters from Yeovil and Martock quickly arrived and found no fire, but the vehicle was engulfed in thick foliage, trapping the male driver.
Fire crews worked carefully to clear branches and create an access point at the rear of the car, eventually freeing the man. He was then taken to hospital for treatment. Though the air ambulance landed at the scene, the casualty was transported by land ambulance.
A witness near the scene told SomersetLive that the entire road between Montacute and Stoke had been closed off, with several police and ambulance vehicles present. The firefighters remained on site for over three hours, leaving around 11:20 pm.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their attendance upon police request and described the operation: “Two fire appliances responded after a car went off the road and was smoking. On arrival, we found a male casualty trapped within dense foliage around the vehicle. Crews cleared the area and extricated the man from the rear of the car.”
The man’s condition remains unknown at this time as investigations continue.
