Man jailed for life for killing his father in Bath home

A tragic case in Bath has ended with Christopher Monro, 30, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his father, Peter Monro. The 73-year-old was found dead in his Kelston View home on February 11 after emergency services responded to a distress call around noon.

Christopher was arrested at his Oxford residence the following day and later charged with murder. He pleaded guilty during an August hearing and was ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years behind bars.

In a poignant statement read in court, Peter’s daughter Lara expressed her struggle to process the loss, saying, “I find it almost impossible to grieve my dear Papa. I don’t think I have been able to yet, as my mind hasn’t fully comprehended what has happened.”

She shared the emotional torment she faces, haunted at times by her father’s cries, yet comforted by memories of his laughter. Lara also shed light on her brother’s battle with severe mental health problems, acknowledging this does not excuse his actions but highlighting the need for better mental health support.

“I hope Kit’s sentencing reflects his actions, but I also pray he receives the care and protection necessary to heal and find peace,” she said. Lara ended her statement with a heartfelt message to her brother: “I loved our Papa with all my heart, and you took him away from me. Though I may never understand why, you will always be my brother, and I will always love and care for you.”

The family has thanked loved ones and specialist family liaison police officers for their unwavering support during this difficult time.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Meade commented on the case’s conclusion, acknowledging the ongoing grief felt by all who knew Peter. He praised the family’s resilience and the crucial role of early information provided by the public in securing the conviction, emphasizing how even small details can significantly impact criminal investigations.
