Man Jailed for Burglary During Victim’s Sleep in Somerset Home

Gary Conquer, 54, has been sentenced to 876 days in prison after breaking into a house in Abbey Manor Park, Somerset, while the resident was asleep. The incident occurred overnight between October 8 and 9 and was captured on CCTV footage capturing Conquer entering the property.

Following his arrest a few weeks later, Conquer pleaded guilty to burglary charges. During the hearing at Taunton Crown Court on Friday, January 23, the court took into account an additional bicycle theft linked to the defendant.

PC Jim Card, who led the investigation, stated, “Conquer forcibly entered the home under the cover of night and stole a backpack containing the victim’s wallet. The emotional and personal impact of such a burglary is significant, and we are satisfied that the nearly two and a half years’ imprisonment reflects the seriousness of this crime.”
