Man in Critical Condition Following Serious Two-Car Collision Near Chard

A man is currently in hospital fighting for his life after a severe two-car collision near Chard. Emergency services responded to the crash at the junction of the B3170 and Royston Road in Otterford at approximately 7:20 pm on Wednesday, June 11.

The accident involved a grey Seat traveling from Corfe towards Yarcombe and a blue Seat. Four people were injured in total, with one man suffering a life-threatening head injury. He was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment, and his next of kin have been informed.

The other three individuals involved sustained minor injuries and were also taken to hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of the crash, the road remained closed for nearly ten hours and reopened shortly after 5 am on June 12.

Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal, requesting anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may assist their investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to call 101, quoting reference number 5225163100.

A police statement read: “We are asking for any witnesses or dashcam footage following a serious collision involving two cars near Chard that left one person with life-threatening injuries. The collision occurred at the junction of the B3170 and Royston Road, Otterford, around 7:20 pm on Wednesday, June 11. Emergency services attended promptly, and while one person suffered a critical head injury, three others received minor injuries. The road was closed overnight and reopened early this morning.
