A trial has commenced for Tony Bartlett, a 39-year-old man from Axminster, Devon, accused of the tragic death of his four-week-old son, Atticus Bartlett. The somber case is being heard at Bristol Crown Court, where a jury of six men and six women has been sworn in.
Atticus was rushed to hospital in critical condition from a home in Chard, Somerset, on July 16, 2022, following an emergency call to paramedics. Despite medical intervention, the infant passed away a week later on July 23.
Presiding over the case, Mr Justice Cavanagh informed the jury that the trial would begin with the prosecution’s opening statements. He reminded jurors that the case involves sensitive and potentially distressing evidence. The prosecution alleges that Tony Bartlett was responsible for the murder of his son, charges which Bartlett denies.
