An Amesbury resident has been fined £1,000 by Wiltshire Council for illegally dumping waste while relocating. Following reports of fly-tipped waste at three locations along Stockport Road, the council’s Environment Enforcement team conducted an investigation which led them to a nearby address in Amesbury. The homeowner admitted that the waste belonged to him and explained that he had chosen to dump it as the household recycling centre was closed until the following day, citing his house move as the reason.
The man was issued a fixed penalty notice (FPN) for fly-tipping. While FPNs are not court convictions, the resident’s identity remains undisclosed.
Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways and Street Scene, emphasized that there are no excuses for fly-tipping and highlighted the council’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal waste disposal. He also stressed the availability of legal alternatives, such as waiting for the recycling center to reopen, and the consequences of choosing otherwise.
