Man Dies in Tragic Incident at West Bay Beach

A man tragically lost his life after encountering difficulties in the sea at East Beach, West Bay, Dorset. The incident occurred on Monday, July 21, prompting an urgent response from emergency services.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., calls were made reporting a man struggling in the water. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), HM Coastguard, Dorset Police, and an Air Ambulance were immediately dispatched to assist.

Despite the rapid response and rescue efforts, Dorset Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious, and his next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police expressed condolences, saying, “We received a report at 8:41 a.m. on Monday, July 21, regarding a man in need of medical attention at East Beach, West Bay. Emergency services attended promptly; however, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The Lyme Regis Lifeboat volunteers also released a statement on Facebook: “This morning, our team responded to an ‘Immediate Launch’ request from HM Coastguard to aid a person reported to be in difficulty at East Beach, West Bay. We launched at 8:58 a.m. and reached the scene at full speed, finding the casualty had already been recovered onto the beach. Our volunteers assisted alongside Air Ambulance and Coastguard teams. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.”
