A fatal crash on the A303 in Somerset has claimed the life of a man in his 50s, with another passenger critically injured. Emergency services responded to a serious single-vehicle collision between Sparkford and Wincanton at around 2pm on Saturday, November 22.
The vehicle left the road near Compton Pauncefoot, crashing into a ditch and trapping four occupants inside. Despite the swift efforts of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue teams, one man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is receiving support from specially trained police officers.
Three other individuals were rushed to hospital. One remains in life-threatening condition, another is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the third has been discharged to recover at home.

The crash forced the closure of both directions of the A303 while emergency crews, including an air ambulance, worked to secure the scene and assist victims.
Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal for witnesses. They urge anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision, or who has dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting incident reference 5225328170.
