A tragic accident occurred this morning on Frome Road in Trowbridge, near the Somerset border, resulting in the death of an elderly man and serious injury to a woman.
At approximately 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, emergency services responded to a two-car collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and a Peugeot 208. The driver of the Polo, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe he experienced a medical episode while driving, which led to the crash. His next of kin have been notified.
A female passenger in the Polo, believed to be in her 70s, sustained potentially serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for urgent treatment. The driver of the Peugeot suffered minor injuries.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The section of the A361 on Frome Road, between Pittman Avenue and Manor Road junctions, was temporarily closed to allow for investigation and vehicle recovery but has since reopened.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson stated: “At around 9:10 a.m., we attended a collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and a Peugeot 208. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the Polo driver was declared deceased at the scene. It is believed he suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.”
