A tragic accident occurred this morning on Frome Road, Trowbridge, near the Somerset border, resulting in the death of an elderly man and injuries to a woman. At approximately 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, emergency services responded to a collision involving two vehicles: a Volkswagen Polo and a Peugeot 208.
The driver of the Volkswagen Polo, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe he experienced a medical episode while driving, which caused the crash. His next of kin have been informed.
A female passenger in the Polo, believed to be in her 70s, sustained potentially serious injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Peugeot suffered minor injuries.

Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The section of Frome Road, part of the A361, between Pittman Avenue and Manor Road was temporarily closed but has since reopened after thorough investigations and vehicle recovery.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson commented, “Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the elderly driver was declared deceased at the scene. It is believed a medical condition led to the collision.”
