Man Convicted of Murdering Girlfriend as She Planned to Leave

Kieron Goodwin, from Frome, was found guilty of murdering 29-year-old Olivia Wood on the night she intended to end their relationship. This decision followed a five-week trial at Bristol Crown Court where Goodwin denied the charge but was convicted.

Throughout the trial, it was revealed that Goodwin had subjected Olivia to both physical and psychological abuse. He manipulated her into taking time off work by threatening self-harm and pressured her into unwanted sexual activities. Olivia also provided him with financial support, which he misused for drug consumption.

In addition to the murder conviction, Goodwin was found guilty of 15 other offenses against Olivia and three other women over a span of five years. The discovery of Olivia’s packed belongings in a suitcase suggested her intention to leave.

Goodwin’s arrest came after he called emergency services to report Olivia’s condition, but suspicions arose when police were called due to her injuries. Despite his denial of the murder, he was found guilty and also charged with controlling and coercive behavior.

A tribute from Olivia’s family reflected the profound impact of her loss and described her as a selfless, compassionate individual. The Crown Prosecution Service revealed a pattern of coercive behavior and exploitation Goodwin subjected his victims to, resulting in tens of thousands of pounds being extorted from them to fuel his drug habit.

Goodwin admitted controlling and coercive behavior but denied the other offenses, although the jury found him guilty. Det Supt Lorett Spierenburg, the senior investigating officer, emphasized the courageous testimonies of the victims and extended tribute to Olivia’s family and friends for their dignified conduct throughout the ordeal.
