A 62-year-old man, Richard Breed, has been formally charged with the murder of an elderly woman in Somerset. The victim, believed to be 87-year-old Brenda Breed, was found dead at a residence in Monmouth Close, Westonzoyland, after neighbours raised concerns about her welfare.
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene at 9:17 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Paramedics confirmed the woman’s death upon arrival. While official identification procedures are ongoing, authorities and the victim’s family have acknowledged her identity. The family expressed their profound grief, stating, “There are no words to describe the pain and devastation which has rippled through our family, friends, and the community from the loss of such a remarkable and much-loved woman.”
Avon and Somerset Police extended their condolences and emphasized that the family continues to be supported by dedicated liaison officers during this difficult time. They also thanked the community for its support and requested privacy for the family.

Richard Breed, currently of no fixed address, appeared in Taunton Dean Magistrates' Court on Thursday, July 24. He made no plea and was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, July 25.
The Major Crime Investigation Team is actively conducting further inquiries, with an increased police presence in Westonzoyland to reassure the local community.
