Man Charged with Attempted Murder Following Home Attack in Yeovil

A 32-year-old man has been formally charged with attempted murder after a woman was attacked in her home in Yeovil. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, when the woman, in her 50s, sustained a neck injury and urgently contacted emergency services.

Avon and Somerset Police responded promptly, and the victim received hospital treatment before being discharged the same day. Within three hours of the emergency call, Colin Thorne, of Kiddles, Yeovil, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Thorne made his first court appearance at Yeovil Magistrates' Court on Monday, February 9, and is scheduled for a hearing at Taunton Crown Court on Monday, March 9.

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Andrew Pritchard expressed his well wishes for the victim’s recovery and praised the officers' rapid response. He addressed concerns about public safety, stating that recent police searches and examinations at a local address have concluded, with no evidence suggesting any ongoing risk to the community.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson confirmed that Thorne has been remanded in custody following the court proceedings. Authorities continue to investigate the incident but have assured the public that there is no wider threat.
