A 21-year-old man has been charged following a fatal single-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a young man earlier this year in Rode. The incident occurred on January 17 at around 1.45am at Rode Common, near the junction of the A361 and Rode Hill, close to Frome.
Avon and Somerset Police responded to reports that a black BMW travelling towards Trowbridge had crashed into a tree on the A-road. Despite the immediate attendance of emergency services, the front-seat passenger, 20-year-old Alfie Belcher, tragically died at the scene.
Following treatment at hospital, a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The Crown Prosecution Service has since authorised charges against 21-year-old Alfie Seviour of Frome for causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while unfit to drive through drink, and causing death by driving unlicensed and uninsured.

Alfie Seviour is scheduled to appear at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 6. Police have confirmed that Mr Belcher’s family are receiving ongoing updates and support from a specially trained family liaison officer during this difficult time.
