Gary Maughan, 33, from Weston-super-Mare, was sentenced at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 11 June, after being caught driving a car with false registration plates containing suspicious items linked to criminal activity.
On Wednesday, 4 March, roads policing officers stopped a grey Ford C-Max on Notaro Way in Bridgwater following intelligence that connected the vehicle to illegal activity. During the stop, officers discovered the car was fitted with fraudulent license plates, and several additional plates were found inside the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed Maughan was driving without a valid license, which had been medically revoked, and the vehicle was uninsured. A search uncovered tools often associated with vehicle theft, including a trolley jack, reciprocating saw, and impact drill.

Roads Policing Inspector Matt Boiles emphasized the critical role of proactive policing in uncovering crimes beyond routine traffic enforcement. He stated, “By targeting suspicious vehicles with intelligence-led stops, officers disrupt criminal activity and help safeguard our communities.”
