A man in his 20s has been arrested in Sussex in connection with the rape and assault of a woman in Wellington during the early hours of May 22. The suspect was detained approximately 150 miles from the incident scene and remains in police custody.
The victim reported that she was punched and raped by a man in the North Street area around 2:20 a.m. before he fled in a vehicle. She received medical treatment at a hospital and has since been released, with specialist officers continuing to provide support.
Following the arrest, police also seized the suspect’s white Volkswagen Golf. Detective Inspector Wendy Fellowes from Avon & Somerset Police’s Operation Bluestone unit, which specializes in investigating serious sexual offenses, thanked the public for their assistance. She urged anyone who captured CCTV or other footage of the vehicle between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Friday near Waterloo Road, North Street, High Street, Fore Street, or Taunton Road to contact the police with relevant information.
