A man has been arrested after a pedestrian tragically lost his life on the A38 in Somerset during the early hours of Friday, January 30.
Emergency services responded to reports at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Bridgwater Road in Winscombe, between Fox Lane and Fullers Lane. A member of the public discovered the injured man, who was in his mid-50s and was later confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.
Avon and Somerset Police have arrested a man in his 30s, who has since been released under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the suspicion surrounding the arrest.

Initial reports indicated uncertainty regarding how the victim sustained his injuries, with police maintaining an open mind about the possibility of a collision or other causes.
Investigators are appealing to the public for any information, especially from those driving in the vicinity between 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, and 12:20 a.m. on Friday, January 30. In particular, officers are interested in dashcam footage from this crucial 35-minute time frame.
The police statement reads: “A man in his 30s has been arrested and released under investigation in connection with the incident on the A38 Bridgwater Road in Winscombe at around 12:10 a.m. on January 30. A man in his mid-fifties sadly died at the scene, and his family has been informed. We are investigating the circumstances and urge anyone who was in the area with relevant dashcam footage between 11:45 p.m. and 12:20 a.m. to come forward. We also want to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the time of the incident.”
