Man Arrested Following Attempted Robbery in Wells City Centre

Police have arrested a man in connection with an attempted robbery that occurred six months ago in Wells city centre. The incident took place on December 15, 2024, between High Street and the Union Street Car Park.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was approached and threatened to hand over money. When he tried to walk away toward the King’s Head pub, the suspect assaulted him with a bladed article, causing a small superficial cut beneath his left ear. Fortunately, the injury did not require hospital treatment.

Detective Constable Dominika Niepsuj, leading the investigation, stated, “We understand that incidents like this can cause concern within the community. We want to reassure residents that this case is being thoroughly investigated, and all necessary steps are being taken to bring the offender to justice.”

Police have pursued various lines of inquiry, including reviewing CCTV footage, speaking with local businesses and residents, and collecting forensic evidence. These efforts have led to the identification and arrest of a suspect who has since been released on bail and remains under investigation.

Authorities are appealing for further assistance from the public. They encourage anyone who was in the Wells High Street area between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm on December 15 and who may have witnessed the incident or captured relevant footage to come forward.
