Man Arrested After Suspected Bomb Found During Search in Bridgwater

A man has been arrested after police discovered a suspected explosive device during a search in Bridgwater.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police were conducting a pre-planned operation at a property on King Street on Saturday afternoon, June 13, when they raised concerns about an item found inside the residence.

As a precaution, police established a cordon around the property and closed nearby roads while bomb disposal experts examined the object. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was called in and ultimately determined that the item did not pose a wider threat to public safety.

A police spokesperson said: “Public safety is always our priority. A cordon and road closures were put in place while we assessed the situation. The EOD team confirmed there was no ongoing risk. Most road closures have been lifted, though a smaller cordon remains as our investigation continues.”

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing and possessing a prohibited weapon. He remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.
