A man was arrested in Bridgwater after police discovered a suspected bomb during a pre-planned search operation. Officers from Avon and Somerset Police attended a property on King Street on the afternoon of Saturday, June 13, where concerns arose over an item found inside the residence.
As a precaution, police established a cordon around the property and closed nearby roads while bomb disposal experts examined the suspicious object. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was called in and determined the item did not pose a wider risk to the public.
Following this assessment, most road closures were lifted, although a smaller cordon remained in place as police activities continued. The arrested man, believed to be in his 60s, is currently in custody facing charges of manufacturing and possession of a prohibited weapon.
