Jardox, a leading food manufacturing company in Somerset, is seeking approval to expand its facility near the A303. Located on Saxon Way within Wincanton Business Park, the company describes itself as “a one-stop shop for all savoury ingredients.”
The expansion involves constructing a new 20,000 square meter warehouse on an adjacent agricultural field west of the existing site. This development could generate up to 20 new jobs for the local community.
Currently, the Wincanton site manufactures, packages, and distributes a variety of household products, including stocks, gravies, curry pastes, marinades, glazes, and seasonings. Jardox’s other UK base is located in Sevenoaks, Kent.
To improve logistics, the project includes creating a one-way system within the factory grounds, facilitating smoother transportation to and from the A303. The plans also feature up to 20 additional parking spaces for staff and visitors.
A representative from Western Design Architects, acting on behalf of Jardox, stated, “The proposed warehouse will provide an opportunity for at least 20 jobs in the area. This development will not negatively impact local businesses or traffic flow.”
The spokesperson further explained that improvements to traffic management, including the one-way system, will alleviate congestion on Murray Way and Saxon Way. Given the site’s strong road connections, the increase in staff is expected to have minimal impact on local highways.
Somerset Council is anticipated to make a decision on the proposals by late spring. If approved, construction could begin during the summer months.
Notably, because Wincanton is outside the Somerset Levels and Moors catchment area, Jardox is not required to provide phosphate mitigation as part of this expansion.
