A significant new housing development is set to transform Wenhill, a southwest area of Calne. Developer CG Fry and Son Ltd has submitted a planning application to Wiltshire Council for the construction of 170 homes alongside a new medical centre.
Spanning approximately 17 hectares, the development will be accessed via Silver Street and will incorporate over eight hectares of public open space. The proposed medical centre is designed to be conveniently located nearest to the existing residential properties, though its construction depends on securing funding from the NHS Integrated Care Board. Notably, a previous planning permission for the medical centre has now expired.
Affordable housing is a key element of the plan, with 30% of the new homes designated as affordable to support local residents. Early consultations have surfaced concerns among the local community, particularly about increased traffic, changes to the landscape, and the potential loss of amenity land.

Although still in the initial stages, the developers have already proposed designs for the new properties, drawing inspiration from the local architectural style to maintain harmony with the surrounding area.
Residents have the opportunity to review the proposals and submit their comments to Wiltshire Council by August 28, referencing application number PL/2025/06250.
