Major Music Festival Set to Return to Wellington After Seven-Year Hiatus

After a seven-year pause, the popular Welliestock music festival is making a highly anticipated return to Wellington town centre this summer. Somerset Council has granted the necessary licence, allowing the event to take place at the Wellington Rugby Football Club on Corams Lane.

Originally paused due to the coronavirus pandemic, Welliestock has faced challenges in planning its comeback. Earlier attempts to revive the festival in 2024 were cancelled due to rising costs. However, the council’s licensing sub-committee West recently approved the event following revisions to the event management plan, which addressed concerns raised by Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

Welliestock is scheduled for July 5, with live and recorded music allowed between 11:30 am and 11:00 pm. Alcohol sales for on-premises consumption will begin at 11:00 am. The event will have a maximum capacity of 1,700, including performers, food vendors, and security staff. Organiser Huw Weston expects approximately 400 attendees under the age of 18.

Weston expressed his excitement and relief on the official Welliestock Facebook page, stating, “We are absolutely delighted that after months of writing, re-writing documents, and overcoming obstacles, we now have the licence in our hands.”

Tickets will go on sale from Saturday, May 10, at Nurtured by Nature on South Street. Prices are set at £20 for adults and £10 for young people aged 16 and under.
