Wells Community Network (WCN) began as the Wells Coronavirus Network just before the lockdown in March 2020. What started with a small group of eight or nine concerned volunteers from local community groups meeting at Daniel’s Café quickly grew into a vital support system for the city during the pandemic.
As COVID-19 restrictions eased, the group evolved from emergency response to meeting ongoing community needs, rebranding itself as Wells Community Network. Recognizing gaps in local support, WCN committed to continuing its service beyond the pandemic.
Now, WCN is proud to announce a substantial grant of £243,757 from the National Lottery’s Reaching Communities programme, secured for the next three years. This funding will allow the organisation to hire a dedicated manager and an administrative assistant. These roles will strengthen the network’s structure, improve volunteer support, and enable the expansion of their community projects.

This grant is a strong vote of confidence in WCN’s work and mission. With this support, WCN plans to launch several new initiatives to benefit the people of Wells, ultimately improving the quality of life for many residents and empowering more volunteers to make a difference.
