Major Gas Pipeline Upgrade Set to Impact Bath’s Upper Weston Roads

Bath residents are advised to attend a public drop-in event to learn about a significant gas pipe replacement project set to disrupt traffic in Upper Weston for several months.

Wales & West Utilities is undertaking a critical upgrade, replacing over 615 metres of aging gas pipelines in the High Street area to ensure a safe and reliable energy supply for local homes and businesses.

The drop-in session is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, from 10am to 4:30pm at the All Saints Centre on High Street, Bath, BA1 4BX. Attendees can review project plans and speak directly with the team leading the work.

Work will commence on Monday, July 21, with an expected completion date in October, weather and engineering conditions permitting. Throughout the duration of the project, temporary traffic management measures, including the installation of traffic lights, will be implemented to manage disruptions.

Wales & West Utilities has coordinated closely with Bath & North East Somerset Council to minimize the impact on local traffic.

Simon Lee, project manager, emphasized the importance of the upgrade: “We encourage residents to join our drop-in session to understand the scope of works and raise any concerns. Although construction inevitably causes inconvenience, this essential upgrade ensures the gas supply remains safe, reliable, and ready for future energy sources such as hydrogen and biomethane.”

Lee added, “Our engineers will work diligently on-site to complete the project efficiently and safely while maintaining as little disruption as possible. Gas utilities play a vital role in everyday life — from heating homes to cooking meals and providing hot water — and it is crucial the network continues to serve the community’s needs securely.”

Residents with questions or concerns about the project can contact Wales & West Utilities’ customer service team at 0800 912 2999 or connect on social media via @WWUtilities on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.
