A significant fire erupted above a shop on Beer Street in Yeovil yesterday, requiring an extensive firefighting effort that lasted several hours. The blaze, which broke out above the store called ‘Blaze Away,’ was reported at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Monday, July 28.
Fire crews from eight engines were dispatched to the scene, utilizing six breathing apparatus sets, four hose reel jets, three safety jets, four thermal imaging cameras, and an aerial ladder platform to combat the flames effectively. The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that multiple reports of a domestic property fire triggered an immediate and growing response. Initially mobilizing two crews, they quickly escalated to include additional units as the situation intensified.
Firefighters from Taunton, Street, Yeovil, Crewkerne, Somerton, Wincanton, Sherborne, and Bearminster joined the operation. Local residents reported visible smoke and a noticeable smell spreading in the nearby neighborhoods, with some noting disruptions along Seaton Road during the emergency response.
