A significant fire broke out at a scrap yard in Taunton during the early hours of Sunday, July 26, prompting a rapid response from multiple fire crews. Teams from Taunton, Bridgwater, Wellington, and Wiveliscombe arrived at the scene shortly after midnight following reports of loud bangs and sirens in the Priory Way area.
The blaze, which was well alight upon arrival, began spreading to nearby trees, requiring a robust firefighting effort. Firefighters deployed three main jets, one hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus sets, an aerial ladder platform, and a water carrier to bring the fire under control. The operation lasted until 3:11 a.m., with a total of five appliances and an incident command unit working to extinguish the flames efficiently.
Taunton Fire Station shared images of the crew battling the fire, highlighting their swift and effective response. The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental ignition.
