Motorists on the M5 are experiencing significant delays following a lorry collision with the central reservation near junction 29, Exeter. The crash has forced the closure of the outside lane, creating severe congestion in both directions.
National Highways is currently managing the scene, where damage to the central reservation has resulted in prolonged lane closures. Although the lorry has been removed, restoration work is ongoing, contributing to continued traffic disruption.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports severe delays, with vehicles moving at just 10-15mph between Exeter and Cullompton northbound. National Highways confirmed delays exceeding 60 minutes northbound and 30 minutes southbound above usual journey times.

Devon and Cornwall Police stated the incident occurred shortly after 12:20 pm and involved a heavy goods vehicle colliding with the central reservation between junctions 29 and 28. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
This accident comes amid increased holiday travel, adding to congestion on the M5. Additional slowdowns are reported southbound near junction 20 at Ettlingen Way, with stop-start traffic extending towards junction 15, the M4 interchange.
Drivers are advised to anticipate longer journey times and exercise caution while passing through the affected areas.
