M5 Drivers Warned of Slow-Moving 15mph Load Causing Morning Delays

Drivers travelling southbound on the M5 should prepare for delays this Thursday, October 9, as a slow-moving abnormal load will be transported along the motorway. The vehicle will be moving at approximately 15mph between junction 23 (Dunball) and junction 26 (Wellington) from 9am to 12pm.

Avon and Somerset Police have issued a warning advising motorists to allow extra travel time during these hours due to expected disruption. The load will join the motorway at Dunball and proceed steadily south, exiting at Wellington.

This disruption is compounded by ongoing major works on the M5, with extended restrictions and overnight closures scheduled between October and February. National Highways is conducting drainage improvement projects near Wellington to reduce flooding and enhance motorway safety during wet weather.

To facilitate the maintenance work, three narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph will be enforced in both directions through the affected junctions. The northbound 50mph restriction will be in place from October 28 to February 19, while the southbound limit will run from November 2 to February 11.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and drive cautiously to navigate the upcoming changes and ensure a safe journey.
