M5 Driver Hit by Flying Metal Fragment Shattering Windscreen

A motorist experienced a frightening incident on the M5 when a large piece of metal came loose from another vehicle and smashed through his windscreen. The driver was travelling northbound between junctions nine and 10, near Tewkesbury, when the chunk of metal struck the driver’s side of his windscreen with such force that it shattered, leaving a sizable hole.

According to the driver’s account shared in the ReachPlc M5 Traffic and Travel Facebook group, the metal debris appeared to have bounced along the road before hitting his windscreen shortly after passing Strensham services between 12.10 pm and 12.15 pm. He also noted that at least a dozen other vehicles were struck by the same piece of debris between the services and the Quay Lane gantry, near mile marker M5 B 59.9.

Concerned about identifying the source of the debris, the driver requested any dashcam footage from witnesses who may have captured the incident. Photographs of the damaged windscreen posted to the group highlight the severity of the impact.
