M5 Closed in Both Directions After Car Transporter Fire Near Cullompton

The M5 motorway has been completely closed in both directions between junctions 28 (Cullompton) and 29 (Exeter) following a fire involving a car transporter carrying nine electric vehicles. The incident has caused major disruption and lengthy delays for motorists in Devon on Wednesday, October 1.

Emergency services, including Devon & Cornwall Fire and Rescue and Devon & Cornwall Police, are currently at the scene managing the large fire. The blaze broke out on a heavy goods vehicle transporting multiple electric cars, prompting immediate closure of the affected stretch of motorway.

National Highways has confirmed the closure and advised drivers to follow official diversion routes to avoid the affected section. Traffic officers are on hand to assist motorists and manage traffic flow during this ongoing emergency response.
