Lorry Engulfed by Fireball in Devon

Spectacular images from Devon capture a lorry engulfed in flames, leading to the closure of A361 near Barnstaple for over six hours. Firefighters battled the intense inferno and are now focused on assessing potential damage to the road surface.

Officials are concerned about the road’s condition after the fire and recovery operations are underway, prolonging the closure.

Initial assessments indicate the fire was accidental, resulting in complete destruction of the lorry.

According to a spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, “Fire control received several 999 calls reporting a large articulated lorry on fire on the A361 near Landkey, Devon. Two fire engines and a water bowser were sent initially, and on arrival, with the lorry well alight, crews asked for another fire engine to assist.”

The spokesperson further added, “Crews are still currently on scene, with Police. The lorry is 100 per cent involved in fire and our crews are currently extinguishing it.”

The statement concluded with, “This lorry was 100 per cent damaged by fire. The cause of the fire was accidental and the scene has been left with the Police and Highways.”
