Lorry Driver Charged Following Fatal Crash of Young Yeovil Man

A 61-year-old lorry driver has been charged in connection with the death of a young man from Yeovil, following a serious collision on the A30 near Sherborne, Dorset. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, 20 February 2024, when a blue Volvo articulated lorry driven by the man from Stibbington, Peterborough, collided with a blue Mini Cooper.

The Mini Cooper’s driver, a man in his 20s from Yeovil, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Despite medical efforts, he sadly passed away on the evening of Wednesday, 21 February 2024.

Dorset Police confirmed that the lorry driver is charged with causing death by careless and/or inconsiderate driving. He is scheduled to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, 25 September 2025. The deceased’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specially trained officers.

The collision took place near Babylon Hill, close to the junction with Marl Lane, and emergency responders attended the scene promptly. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
