Longleat Estate is set to light up the skies once again with its much-anticipated Icons of the Sky event from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14, 2025. Returning for its second year, this three-day hot air balloon festival promises an extraordinary spectacle featuring a vibrant mix of giant balloons, captivating airshows, and historic tributes.
Among the highlights are exciting balloon debuts including Oggy the Friendly Dragon—making only its third UK appearance—alongside magical newcomers like Disney’s Up, Funny Bunny, and Tropsy the Baby Dino. These fresh faces will join beloved favorites such as Slick the Dragon, Daisy the Cow, Scarlett the Macaw, and Elii the Elephant, delighting crowds each day.
Tethered balloon displays will showcase a quirky collection of unique shapes and characters: Babybel’s ‘Mr Cool’, a forklift truck, an Ordnance Survey map, a giant lightbulb, and Miracle Man. Returning classics such as Rupert Bear, Thomas the Tank Engine, and the Michelin Man will also be soaring above the park.

The event’s aerial program is equally captivating, featuring daily flying displays that range from graceful aerial ballet to adrenaline-pumping aerobatics. Spectators will have the rare opportunity to witness performances by the RAF Falcons and the RAF Tutor aircraft. Adding a poignant touch, the festival will also honor the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special tribute showcasing the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Supermarine Spitfire and the T6 Harvard ‘Wacky Wabbit’.
Scott Ashman, Longleat’s Head of Operations, expressed his enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to offer such a diverse lineup. From new, exciting balloon shapes to much-loved favorites returning this year, there’s something for everyone. The addition of the VE Day tribute adds a meaningful dimension, especially as Longleat’s own wartime history has recently come to light through parch marks revealing the old military hospital where camels now graze. We look forward to a spectacular event with moments to remember.”
Icons of the Sky is included with Longleat estate’s standard day admission, and all regular attractions will remain open throughout the event. Balloon flights are weather dependent, but visitors can enjoy a full program of activities rain or shine.
