The Yeovil police station is set to undergo a long-anticipated refurbishment starting this summer, finally giving residents the chance to inspect the upcoming changes in detail. Initially planned to be replaced with a new facility, the Horsey Lane station’s refurbishment has now been approved by the South Somerset District Council, with a budget of £6.2m allocated for the project.
The construction, which was delayed due to Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, will now commence after formal plans to build a new station were abandoned in April 2023. The current building, left empty, has a temporary inquiry office operating on weekdays and weekends outside the front premises. Meanwhile, the policing teams have been temporarily stationed in the Somerset Council’s offices on Brympton Way while the revised plans for Horsey Lane were in development.
The anticipated cost of the refurbishment has not been disclosed by the force, emphasizing its significance as an investment in Yeovil’s policing. This modernization will provide a suitable operational base and a new vehicle workshop, ensuring a locally maintained police vehicle fleet. Furthermore, the refurbishment will include the construction of a new external staircase to comply with modern fire safety standards.

Neighborhood Inspector Roseanna Green expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and assured that the long-awaited refurbishment will deliver an exceptional service for Yeovil and the surrounding areas. To bridge any inconvenience during the refurbishment, a drop-in event at Goldenstones Leisure Centre on May 14 will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more and address queries.
Following completion, the new station is expected to open its doors to officers in autumn 2026, with plans in place to minimize disruption to the local residents during the entire renovation process.
